    Local Dispensary Releases New App
    August 17th, 2017
    |
Terrapin Care Stations, now at over 100 members, the Terrapin Staff family serves the Communities of Aurora, Boulder and Denver Colorado and Eugene Oregon providing medical patients and recreational consumers with the finest Quality Cannabis, expert product knowledge with a wide selection and affordable pricing since 2009.  And now those same products can be viewed and set for pickup with the newly developed App from Goozmo Inc.     The application was developed to serve as an extension to the website online shopping cart experience. The app allows users to quickly access the Terrapin’s online store and place orders easily directly through their smart phone. The application is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which will server iPhones and Android devices.     The app was developed under the React Native framework.  This gave our team the flexibility to create an app that was moldable for both iOS and Android systems.  React Native also provides a better platform for updates down the road with each type of device.     User experience required a careful user interface design, structure, and functionality through the application itself. Although the app is an extension of the website experience, certain functionality was needed to be planned differently so it presents well on a much smaller screen. Based on location and inventory, the app will allow users to search products and then display the store where it is available automatically.   With the new app, you can enjoy everything about Terrapin Care Station in the palm of your hand.  Stay connected, learn about special deals, community news, products, store locations, and pick-up requests.     Download the new Terrapin App at either the Apple App Store or Google Play.  And check out other projects from Goozmo to see we can do for you.

    March 2017 Google Update: Fred
    August 15th, 2017
    |
Now many of you might not pay attention when a new update is released from Google but a new algorithm update from Google, code named Fred is causing quite a stir in the SEO community. On March 8th, 2017 thousands of business and SEO companies noticed crazy fluctuations, both positive and negative depending on the company. What was first thought to be an update to combat link spam, an article from Barry Schwartz explains that this update is going to target ad heavy, low-value content and affiliate sites. Barry Schwartz from Search Engine Land describes the new update as focusing on "the link quality aspects of the overall algorithm." So what does this mean and how do you combat these changes if you have noticed traffic slowing down on your site. Well, one until we can get a final confirmation on what the update actually affected we can only research trends and tweak your site to accommodate new regulations. But thankfully through tireless efforts of the community, we do have a few quick fixes that can help. - Check your ad ratio to ensure it’s not over the top! -Write specific content designed to solve a particular user search query. -Don’t write similar or the same content over and over. -Include other forms of content such as videos. Also, remember any adjust to a site can take months to reflect with Google and other webmaster tracking tools. Good luck and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Colorado App Development - Agile
    August 2nd, 2017
    |
Now many of you might be asking what does App Development and the Agile project management methodology have to do with one another?  Because isn't Agile used for software development organizations and not App development or digital marketing agencies?  Well, we at Goozmo have been successfully using the Agile system for over 4 years with all of our app development projects and client marketing efforts.   We at Goozmo see Agile as a better way to not only communicate to each other internally but with our clients as well.   According to Alec Morgana from ZenHub, he states that Agile and Design follow a different thinking " Now, the two schools of thought of Agile and Design Thinking are beginning to intersect.".   But really is the thinking of that different from one another.  Take the Agile methodology first.  Alec describes Agile as "...an umbrella term that describes a philosophy of work more than the actual tools and processes that are used by its proponents.  Or Wikipedia's example, "Agile software development describes a set of values and principles for software development under which requirements and solutions evolve through the collaborative effort of self-organizing cross-functional teams."  So breaking this down from these two examples we have a methodology that is a philosophy of work that focuses on collaborative efforts between individuals to reach an end goal collectively.  So is that really any different from how the design flow and methodology should work for development? Take Goozmo for example, our core focuses for any project is team collaboration and adapting to the inevitability of the evolution of a project; and planning for those interruptions or unknowns.  Without that core team focus and communication, we would be unable to move in and out of projects easily and better adjust for unknowns.  I believe that the design aspect of Goozmo creates the questions and desires for every project.  Then we use Agile to group those questions and work together in small manageable sections to come up with a solution for the client. So, in the end, I think Alec says it best, "...the two philosophies run parallel, not at an intersection."  Meaning while the individuals behind each of these methodologies may not come from the same background the end goal is always the same.  The final product that you as a company or individual can confidently present to your client.

    App Development highlight: TipFlip
    April 1st, 2017
    |
TipFlip is a revolutionary application for mobile devices to connect people to other people they want to reward at any time. This concept can be used in a variety of different ways, including tipping your hair stylist, your server, or just someone you want to reward. A person who is wanting to reward someone will open the TipFlip app on their device. A map will show active people who are also signed in based on proximity to where the person wanting to reward is located. The Goozmo team developed this app from the ground up to accommodate both iOS and Android platforms to expand the app to all devices.  The Goozmo team had a lot of work ahead of them with no other apps already developed or platforms in production that could be used as a base for UX and design.  This required a lot of testing and back and forth with the customer to determine how they saw the application working not only for their customers but for the staff that would be using it to receive tips.  So Goozmo not only had to worry about the UX of the customer but had to make a separate system that would make receiving tips easy and intuitive. Before the app could be developed in a physical sense we had to create a brand image that would not only represent our clients base organizations but could be expanded to all service industries.  Below you can see where we started in the branding process and the end result.    Now while part of the team was working on the design and branding of the new project our developers had to begin to look for a platform to build the new app on.  A couple options were thrown around.  But in the end, we determined that the best and most stable platform would be React Native.  The reason that we chose React was because we had Thousands of app examples are using React Native, from established Fortune 500 companies to hot new startups. This helped build confidence in the client that the app that was being developed was fully tested and trusted by much larger organizations.  To learn more about React Native check out the details from its creators Facebook, https://facebook.github.io/react-native/.   Through the stages of setting up the designs and functionality we had constant reviews by not only the customer but external users as well to determine but user flow and understanding of how the site worked.   In the end, Goozmo created an App that can be utilized in a number of different service areas and outlets.  Accommodating the current customer and larger customer base.  Setting the customer up for success in all possible avenues in the market.  Take a look at the new app at tipflip.co for more information.

    Colorado App Development
    October 5th, 2016
    |
Developing and marketing an app can seem pretty daunting with all the competition.  The Apple app store alone has over 2 million apps available to download as of today.  That is a lot of noise to rumble through if you don’t have a clear goal or mission in mind for your app.  With everyone having some sort of app these days how do you know that an app is a right move for you and your company?  Determining if your company could benefit from an app can be pretty simple.  Just ask yourself some questions like these from local Boulder company InspringApps. What problem will your app solve? Who are you marketing your app too? Why is your app best suited for the task? A market analysis is also crucial to developing your app.  An analysis will give you insight on how many other apps are out in the market like yours.  It will also open your eyes to features that these other apps are not including that your app can market on.  It's important to know who your competition is and knowing what they are not doing that you could be doing.   Another crucial component that needs attention while developing an app is User Experience.  One of the worst things you can do is have a product that is confusing and hard to navigate.  Most people won't get past the first page if it is not clear what your app is doing for them.   Going through all this you may think to yourself, wow this is going to take to much time and money to be successful.  While it might seem daunting to build your app.  The benefit that can come to your company and business can be well worth all the effort.  Some benefits that can come from developing an app are:  Having a further reaching hand to more customers. Creating Brand Awareness and Boosting Traffic to your desktop site. Engaging new customers and creating a customer loyalty base Gathering Insights on Users to better your business   For more information on how your company can cash in on this growing industry, give Goozmo a call and see how we can improve your digital presence.

UI / UX What is it?
    August 2nd, 2016
    |
A Colorado Digital Agencies take on why UI / UX are so important! As Rahul Varshney, Co-creator of Foster.fm puts it: “User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) are some of the most confused and misused terms in our field. A UI without UX is like a painter slapping paint onto canvas without thought; while UX without UI is like the frame of a sculpture with no paper mache on it. A great product experience starts with UX followed by UI. Both are essential for the product’s success.” But before we go into why UI/UX is important lets first breakdown what UI/UX really is UX which stands for User Experience Design is the process of enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty by improving the usability, ease of use, and pleasure provided in the interaction between the customer and the product. Wikipedia UI which stands for User Interface Design is the design of user interfaces to focus on maximizing usability and the user experience. The goal of user interface design is to make the user's interaction as simple and efficient as possible, in terms of accomplishing user goals.  Wikipedia  An overview of UX UX is important in so many different ways.  From the impression of the site to how smooth and easy it is to transition from one page to another.  Through good UX a site will have less abandoned pages and cause less frustration on a customer.  These are key components to having not only a successful site but a successful business.  UX also aids in the flow of the site, while also taking into account customer perception.  Starting with good design and planning will be the back bone to the UX of any site.  As well as helping ingrain the impression of your business. How UI fits into the picture You can look at UI in many different ways in how it interacts with UX and the entire site.  UI is the functionality of the site that aids the design and UX in achieving the goals of the site.  UI helps to keep customers on a specific page through the technical function and the visual cues.  Good UI can make sure your site does not have slow load times, hard to read content and graphics, and poor site flow.  All of these items are key reasons that companies lose customers on their site.    So what does this all mean in the end?  When your designs focus on user experience and user interface your site can see more traffic.  Through this traffic companies will start to see the recognition they need to succeed.    So make sure that your site was designed and developed with good UI and UX in mind.  If not reach out to your local web company and see how they can help you. If you would like more information on UI/UX or want to see if your site is following these standards, please contact us and let’s chat! 303.938.6821 - hello@goozmo.com #Goozmo #UI/UX #Tips&Tricks #Colorado

    Top 10 EASY Website Tricks
    July 16th, 2016
    |
We have been building websites for over 15 years, so I thought I would share a quick list of what I consider the top 10 things you can do right now to help your website.  We apply these to all projects we complete, and see results: 1. If on Wordpress, change wp-login to something custom (install plugin) 2. Make logo retina ready, and any key branding graphics.. be PROFESSIONAL 3. Cut down on long copy, and stick to the basics - visitors and search engines HATE THIS 4. Make sure your og: tags are setup for social sharing 5. Run a test at https://gtmetrix.com/ - if you don't score about 85, FIX IT.  Performance is very important and this tool tells you how to fix it! 6. Run a test at http://seositecheckup.com/ - if you don't score above 87, FIX IT.  Again, this tool tells you what to do! 7. Make sure you have Google Webmaster tools setup with a sitemap submitted 8. Ask yourself, when was the last time you have visited your website?  If the answer is longer than a week, something is wrong.  You should check in to your website, and make updates frequently.  OR hire someone to do it.  If you just simply hate looking at your site, perhaps a redesign is in order. 9. Ask someone you barely know to go to your website, in front of you, and see if they know what you do within 10 seconds... if they don't have a clue something is wrong.  A visitor shouldn't question what you do EVER.  I can't stress enough how important this is.  People have many other choices that you and your business, and if you make them think, they will move on. 10. Are you still using a non-domain email address... like Gmail?  Time to get an email address attached to you primary domain that your website uses.  This is very professional and shows increase in conversion significantly.  Even if you are a 'one person shop' you need a business email address. I pulled these out because all of them are easy to do, and quickly!  Obviously there are a lot more tips/tricks I can share, so I will leave that for next time :).  If you have any questions on the above items, I am more than willing to help - call or stop on by. Cheers!

    Colorado Web Design
    May 9th, 2016
    |
Although we are located in beautiful Boulder, we serve the entire state of Colorado.  If you are looking for high end, high quality web application development you have come to the right place.  We have been building stunning website for over 15 years. Today, anyone can build a website, and we are well aware of that.  However, not everyone can build a good website.  For example, it is very easy to build a Wordpress website incorrectly.  There are many aspects that are skipped when setting one up - performance, security, plugin optimization, search engine optimization, data integrety, updatability, and more.  All these factors make your Wordpress website almost worthless 6 months after launch if not done correctly.  Not to mention the time and headache required to fix it when it does fail. In addition to these logistics, user experience is as important.  Design is just a small part of a website.  Presentation, flow, accessibility are critical for a successful web experience.  Surfers of the web, including you, have a very short attention span.  Also if something isn't clear, it is very easy to just move on... why?  Because there is always something better out there.  The worst thing you can do with a website is deter visitors simply because it is not clear what you do.  This is where user expience can either kill your website, or make it successful. This is where our value comes in.  Again, building a website isn't that hard.. really.  Building a successful website on the other hand is very difficult.  This is where we can help. Let's chat!

    The TipFlip App
    May 9th, 2016
    |
After chicken scratches on notebook paper, concepts, wireframes, branding, web design, API development, and application deployment, TipFlip has been born.  We were charged with all aspects of development, brand, and technology.  We took the ideas presented by the client, and applied user experience strategy through a wireframe presentation.  At the same time during this process, we created the TipFlip brand/logo for early marketing materials. From the wireframe concepts, we create development specs and went into full development of a full iOS and Android native application.  To bring it all together, we built a website foundation to act as the marketing portal and funnel for all social media efforts.   Now, in the palm of your hands, you can quickly tip/reward anyone you like!  Perhaps you have a favorite barista or hair stylist, and want to show them some gratitude.  Perhaps you don't have cash and need to tip your cab driver.  The possibilities are endless, and it is all trackable for future gifts. Check out tipflip.co for more information, and make sure to visit the APP Stores to download TipFlip!

How to Grow a Web Agency
    July 18th, 2014
    |
Our founder, Tyson Brawley, was interviewed by Brent Weaver with uGurus on 'How to Grow a Web Agency'.  Let us know what you think! Transcript Brent: I'm Brent Weaver and you're watching uGurus, a must-watch web series to become a more profitable and in-demand web professional. Today, I'm in Boulder, Colorado with Tyson Brawley at Goozmo. Welcome to the program. Tyson: Thanks. Brent: Tyson, what makes Goozmo unique? Tyson: What makes us unique? I would say, our passion behind it. We have a lot of drive that we inject into all of our projects. We treat this as a relationship with our clients. We tell every client going into any project that we want to be their web partner, their web go-to to everything, to be part of their goals, to be part of their passion. With that, we then put that into the work we do for them. We treat everything as an ongoing relationship with all of our clients. With that, we find that to be unique with us and how we approach it. Brent: Does ongoing mean that you have some kind of recurring relationship with your customers? Tyson: Yes. We have an ongoing support plan, I guess you could call it, where it extends to anything from just general questions, consulting, new ideas, help with their websites, particularly content management system, like WordPress, Joomla, any of those applications. We're there. On call, so to speak. They can pick our brain or just ask us anything, and that is recurring. And that's an extension to our relationship with them. Brent: Give me an idea of the scope of Goozmo. How many clients do you guys currently have? Tyson: Right now we're supporting between 450 and 500 clients across multiple different platforms. Some are websites or even services that are not technically on a platform, but we're supporting them in terms of search engine optimization, campaigns such as social media, possibly blog writing, even just graphic design. They'll come to us on a recurring basis and we'll perform graphic changes or even print material and that kind of stuff. Brent: When did Goozmo start? Tyson: We started in January of 2000. In the beginning we were literally working out of a garage. Read More
